Deductible

The deductible is what you pay before your insurer steps in. Beyond it, a 10 % co-payment applies, capped at CHF 700.– per year for adults and CHF 350.– for children.

Accident cover

If you work more than 8 hours a week for the same employer, they already cover you for occupational and non-occupational accidents. You can then remove this cover from your basic insurance and pay less.

Self-employed people, those without work, children, students and homemakers must keep it.

Insurance models

Standard — no restriction on choosing your doctor. The most expensive.

Alternative — family doctor, Telmed or HMO: you accept a required first point of contact, and the premium drops by up to 25 %.

Year of birth

Insurers apply a tariff per age group. The LAMal defines three: children up to 18, young adults from 19 to 25, and adults from 26.
