FOPH-approved tariffs · 2026
Premiums rise by +3.0 % in 2026.
That is roughly CHF 211 more per year for an adult, at identical cover. But this average hides the essential point: the gap between two insurers remains far larger than the annual increase.

What this average does not tell you
Your canton matters more than the average
A Geneva premium and an Appenzell premium have nothing in common. The Swiss average tells you almost nothing about what you will actually pay.
The gap between insurers exceeds the increase
Up to CHF 2'921 separates two insurers for strictly identical benefits. Switching insurer often weighs more than the annual increase.
Model and deductible move the needle
Family doctor, Telmed or HMO cut the premium by 10 to 25 %. A higher deductible does too — provided you rarely see a doctor.
How to read these figures
Where do these premiums come from?
From the official tariffs approved by the Federal Office of Public Health. Each insurer submits its premiums, the FOPH validates them, and they become public. We import them as they are, without reprocessing.
What exactly does the "average premium" represent?
The average across the 26 cantons for a reference profile: adult, CHF 300 deductible, standard model, accident cover included. It is the most common combination — but your premium depends on your actual situation.
Why are premiums rising?
Mainly because healthcare costs are rising: new treatments, an ageing population, more consultations. Insurers make no profit on basic insurance — the law forbids it.
Until when can I change insurer?
Cancellation must reach your current insurer by 30 November at the latest, for a change on 1 January. The date of receipt counts, not the date of posting.
Your premium, not the average
How much are you overpaying?
Two minutes are enough to compare every insurer in your municipality, at identical benefits.
